Boxvalet – Development and Page Design

Day 5

This was the first layout of our Boxvalet project

Today, I was asked to start developing the boxvalet project. My training task was switched to boxvalet page design which was one of my major assignment for this internship. Taking charge of the system’s front end and user interface is really my interest so I immediately started the task. The home, security and support tabs were left for me to create. I used Macromedia Dreamweaver as my leading web design and development tool. I had so much fun doing the page design so I was able to finish the three tab designs and contents within the day. =)

Day 6 – 9

Since I was able to finish the task yesterday, another (more complicated) work was given to me. That is to do the testing for boxvalet’s model using RSPEC which provides a Domain Specific Language with which you can express executable examples of the expected behavior of a system. A tutorial on rspec was sent by Sir David for me to study and be able to do the installation and basic testings. After familiarizing myself with the Language, I started creating the testing for the model and finished coding for two days since there are lots of tables in the project’s database and a test for each is required. Then in order to check and sort of compile what I’ve done, I used the Ruby console in InstantRails to run and check for any syntax or logical errors. Fortunately, I was able to finish the whole model task (running without failures) for approximately four days I think. =)
