long awaited project plus some nasty tricks by the boss..

i’ll check on it at the end of the day.. [big grin]

Sure! Checking the project at the end of the day is FINE. Very fine indeed. But it’s a different story if you DID NOT know that you were supposed to do it after the discussion about the project. Hold on. Let me finish.. Im not as stupid as this seems!

Here’s the whole story..

This morning, i went straight to the new excel task i was given. And yes, i had waited for sir Al to consult and clarify what he really wanted done with it. I found out some problems with what he wanted me to do. Oh, by the way, the other excel task i was doing I placed on hold. I just need to figure out a way to connect the email button to the actual emailing. This new one was more important, i guess. Back to topic. After discussing a few matters, i went back to work.

A few minutes after lunch, Bill (i try not to address him Sir Bill as foreigners like to be address only by their first name) went over to our area and discussed this new HID cardHID card.. similar to the one we have at Oberthur (refer to image) project that the company would soon be signing. He wanted us to do a serial number generator for the smart cards that would mediate between two independent systems that apparently did not have any way of communicating with each other. He wanted it done with Visual Basic. I was tasked to start on it. Mei Ann would be helping me. More researches about the two systems will also be needed. More discussions until finally he left us to do our work.I was hoping to do it immediately but Sir Al left us to continue what we were doing. No discussion about how to go about it whatsoever. I overheard Sir Lennard (?) calling the companies concerned about their products so i figured we will be given the go signal once they figured some stuff out.

I strained myself over the secured network of the company and the VB code i was doing in excel. It was recognizing some code as a virus! I spent the most of the afternoon trying to find out what was wrong and did some code revisions trying to make better use of the time.

Until… after a bathroom break around 4:30 pm, we ran into Bill at the office entrance.

He was asking how i was doing with the project. I didn’t even know he was talking to me until he repeated his question and addressed it to me. My eyes went wide and i turned toward Mei Ann trying to get off an answer from her and trying to see if she knew we should have started the project at once. But all i was given was the same puzzled look i also had.

I answered stammering “I…havent…started it yet. SirAlaskedmetodosomethingelse.”

Bill: “Oh you’re wasting my time, ill check on it at the end of the day” (not exact words but close to that)

Me: “okay” (almost whispering sabay lapit kay Mei Ann at tingin sa oras)

Panic! We went to our supervisor and told her about it. She gave me some instructions…well..actually reviewed what Bill wanted done and left me to do it. I started to search and download a VB editor and it was taking a century to finish!

My mind was racing, thinking “ohno!ohno!ohno!” and praying for a miracle. Bill told Sir Al about this. Then Sir Al went to my area and saw that i had been briefed , then left… I overheard Bill ask the team to supervise me. Sir Al replied saying i was starting already. My inner dialog was saying, “yes, starting to download the IDE…*sob*” .

Bill then said he wanted to see what i’ve done by 6pm and it was already 5:30pm! My immediate reaction was to IM our supervisor and tell her i was still downloading. The download was far from done. Our supervisor went to him and told him my REAL status. Guess what? It was all a joke… it was intended to pressure me…

Well, he could’ve given me a lot more than pressure.. a heart attack maybe..

but it was a big relief as well… at least now, i know i won’t be working on excel sheets for a while.

haba noh??

fingers cold from being nervous,

joan lotus =S
