Web? Service?

April 24-25, 2008

My goal for today is to finish the Web Service. But while I was studying, I’m having doubts whether I could really accomplish that goal. I researched too many resources already and tried different keywords like SOAP, XML, java, web service eclipse, web service eclipse beginner, SOAP beginner, SOAP java beginner, web service SOAP eclipse, etc but still everything was alien. And somehow I found the following link that saved me. Whew!

Since I already have the Controller class from my MVC implementation for the functionality being asked, I only made a few changes to this class and transferred it to a separate class for the Web Service exercise. Then, I built a Web Service project from that new class. The results that were generated by Eclipse were in JSP. But, I still have to modify the project to fit the requirements of the case study. It’s my first time to encounter JSP. I asked my OJTmates if they know JSP, and they do because they have a course in UPLB about Web Applications. <wow….>. They said that JSP is HTML with Java. And it really is. Somehow, even if the source codes were a little scary, I understand the Java part and a little HTML. And so, I sort of experimented with the codes. <haha. Fun!>

Congrats! I accomplished my goal. At around 2.30 pm, my OJTmates and I had our late lunch. We can’t believe that we are actually done with the case study! That was a relief.

So, by Friday, I just reviewed my codes and finalized everything. My Web Service is only simple. It doesn’t have any design or whatever although I originally planned to add some. Alli (OJTmate) tried something to improve the way my Web Service displays the result and it worked! <haha. Thanks!>

Throughout the day, my OJTmates and I were sort of doing nothing. <haha. Free time! Free time!>. Thank goodness the Internet connection was back in the afternoon! We were all wishing for the time to fast forward. They were waiting for 5pm. I was looking forward to the planned dinner with friends. <wahe..wahe.. *big big smile*>

While waiting for 6.10 pm, I was finalizing my blog entries for Sir Deo (Team Lead) to check. I mentioned to him about the course requirement to post blogs as our progress report. He said it’s okay if I mention anything about the case studies, but, just to be sure that I don’t blurt out anything confidential, he wants to see my drafts.

But, he was not in the office that day so I just sent him a text message. And then, Sir Jason (Team Lead) approached me and told me that he received my message. <wenkwenk> I mixed up their numbers!!! The catch is the other Team Leads don’t know anything about the blog. <waha.waha.>

Sir Deo went back at around 4pm, and he checked my drafts. Of course I only let him read the parts where I mentioned about the training. But while he was reading it he was adding words like dear diary! And his voice was loud! <uhm, sir..shhh….haha>

I promised myself that during dinner out with friends, I’m not going to think about the case study. I’m just going to enjoy the night and rest during the weekends. Because the truth is, even if I think I’m done, there are still what if’s going on my mind. And all these what if’s will be answered on Monday. <wah.scary.>

P.S. THANK YOU to those whom I asked about the Web Service and the password masking in Java for console, and also, to my OJTmate who unconsciously gave me the idea for the title of this post. Haha. ^_^
