Stratbucks?? Starpoint?? Strartbuckspointsss??

Monday was the start of our (interns) 4th week here at Stratpoint. The day started (for me), as usual, with the checking of e-mail accounts, reading of new blog posts and then unproductive web surfing. I really had no concrete idea on what to do next, since we already “fixed” the Friendster API last week. I think it was already in the afternoon when I decided to give the image-retrieving-from-web-url function of our project a start.

I really didn’t know where to begin as I am not used to coding/programming from scratch. Therefore, using the ever-trusted technique, I googled the prase “saving image from web in java” and… POOF! it became Coco Crunch! (well, not really. instead, different links to sites containing sample programs/codes that were related to the phrase i entered appeared (ooooohhhhh! so that’s what google is for!).) I picked around three sites that were the closest to the one I needed and tried them out (By the way, I already tried searching last week but was unsuccessful in my attempt). The combination of two sites gave me a rough idea of how the task is accomplished in Java, and I was glad that it wasn’t that difficult. My attempt was successful as the image from the sample Friendster URL of a photo that we had was saved on the project’s local directory when I ran the code.

It works!

A few moments later, Sir Roqs (project consultant) summoned us to a(nother) meeting. We thought we were going to have the meeting at the pantry (not that weird, we have done it before, though without our proj consultant and/or manager) because we went out the Stratpoint door, but to our surprise, Sir Roqs said “Tara, sa labas tayo magmeet”.

It was hot as hell outside, and we were already walking for quite some time (and distance), still I didn’t know where we were going. Finally, we arrived at our destination: Starbucks. To our surprise (again), Sir Roqs treated us with cooling (decaffeinated) drinks (thanks again Sir Roqs), except Dru who opted for steaming coffee. We had the usual progress report, and we planned the needed steps for our project (a whole lot to go). After that, we walked back (fortunately the sun was already setting) to the office. There were a few things Sir Roqs asked us to do before going home, but I had to go for my ride home was already waiting…

P.S.
I’m really sorry for the (overuse of) parenthesized statements (haha, there it goes again… oh, this one too). And for those who didn’t laugh at my Google-Coco Crunch joke (whether you did not find it funny or you did not get it at all) : Shame on you! Haha!

And yes, I’m running out of decent… and sensible titles for my blog posts.
